Description

  • Recommendations for Use: The VL53L0X is a time-of-flight ranging system integrated into a compact module. This board is the carrier for the VL53L0X and we therefore recommend that you read the VL53L0X datasheet carefully before using this product
  • Product Principle: The VL53L0 uses time-of-flight sensing technology to accurately measure the time it takes for an emitted infrared lasers pulse to reach the nearest object and reflect back to the detector, so it can be regarded as a miniature, self-contained LiDAR system
  • Low Interference: This time-of-flight (TOF) measurement method makes it possible to accurately determine the absolute distance to the target without being greatly affected by the object's reflectivity
  • High Measurement Accuracy: The sensor is capable of reporting distances up to 2 metres (6.6 ft) with a resolution of 1 mm, but its effective distance and accuracy (noise) are highly dependent on the environmental conditions, target characteristics (such as reflectivity and size), and the configuration of the sensor.
  • I2C (TWI) Interface: Ranging measurements can be made via the sensor's I2C (TWI) interface, which is also used to configure the sensor settings, and the sensor provides two additional pins: a shutdown input and an interrupt output


The VL53L0X is a great IC, but its small,leadless, LGA package makes it difficult for the typical student or hobbyist touse.

It also operates at a recommended voltage of 2.8 V, which can makeinterfacing difficult for microcontrollers operating at 3.3 V or 5 V. Ourbreakout board addresses these issues, making it easier to get started usingthe sensor, while keeping the overall size as small as possible.

PIN Description:
VDD Regulated 2.8 V output. Almost 150 mA is available to power externalcomponents. (If you want to bypass the internal regulator, you can instead usethis pin as a 2.8 V input with VIN disconnected.)
VIN This is the main 2.6 V to 5.5 V power supply connection. The SCL and SDAlevel shifters pull the I2C lineshigh to this level.
GND The ground (0 V) connection for your power supply. Your I2C control source must also share a common groundwith this board.
SDA Level-shifted I2C dataline: HIGH is VIN, LOW is 0 V
SCL Level-shifted I2C clockline: HIGH is VIN, LOW is 0 V
XSHUT This pin is an active-low shutdown input; the board pulls it up to VDDto enable the sensor by default. Driving this pin low puts the sensor intohardware standby. This input is not level-shifted.
